Someone is watching your every move…

Holly Lawrence always wanted to be a spy, but the experience proved more dangerous than anything she imagined. Now, Holly lives in hiding under an assumed name. She avoids relationships and trusts no one.

But Holly’s new life begins to unravel when she encounters a young mother and her two-year-old child… a child who reminds her of a past she has tried hard to forget. This time, someone is spying on her, and Holly will need to decide how far she is willing to go to survive.

A psychological thriller unlike anything you’ve read before…

My Review

Unpredictable, unputdownable and unbelievably good!

Holly has always wanted to be a spy, for as long as she can remember she has aspired to work for MI5 but life doesn’t always go as planned. After a failed interview she packs up her dreams and moves on with her life. Married in an abusive relationship, life isn’t great, but things are about to go from bad to worse. She comes head to head with her past forcing her to run away from everyone and everything, even changing her name.

Holly becomes Helen and a chance meeting of a mother and daughter, Eliza and Alice in the hospital where she works turns her new life upside-down and the wannabe spy becomes the one that is being spied upon.

This is quite a difficult book to review without dropping any spoilers and I would hate to give anything away, you need to go jump into this book with nothing but the blurb and some recommendations and you won’t be disappointed!

It’s not so much as a spy novel it is more of a domestic noir, psychological thriller that touches on some delicate topics that are handled delicately and with compassion. The story is told on a dual timeline, switching between past and present with a full cast of characters, some relatable, some that make you care and one that is a complete asshole! Packed to the brim with suspense, it grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go until the bitter end. The ending isn’t a definitive ending, leaving some loose threads that keep your imagination firing on full cylinders, who can she trust and how far will she have to go to survive?

I Spy will be published on 01 August 2019 and is available to preorder now and you can find out for yourself!

A big thank you to the author Claire Kendal, publishers Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest and independent review.
