NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

Victoria McQueen has a secret gift for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. On her Raleigh Tuff Burner bike, she makes her way to a rickety covered bridge that, within moments, takes her wherever she needs to go, whether it’s across Massachusetts or across the country.

Charles Talent Manx has a way with children. He likes to take them for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the NOS4A2 vanity plate. With his old car, he can slip right out of the everyday world, and onto the hidden roads that transport them to an astonishing – and terrifying – playground of amusements he calls “Christmasland.”

Then, one day, Vic goes looking for trouble—and finds Manx. That was a lifetime ago. Now Vic, the only kid to ever escape Manx’s unmitigated evil, is all grown up and desperate to forget. But Charlie Manx never stopped thinking about Victoria McQueen. He’s on the road again and he’s picked up a new passenger: Vic’s own son.

My Review

Everyone loves Christmas, some more than others and this is a brilliant read for this time of year. Instead of having yearly reruns of The Snowman and Home Alone for seasonal entertainment, this book should be read annually to get you in the Christmas spirit!

Christmasland would make a great alternative holiday to Disneyland, I can see it now – A monstrous Christmas tree decorated my shrunken heads, skulls, bats and vampires. Sugared rats tails, popping eyeball candy and battered OxyContin (only for the adults!) rather than chips, burgers and sweeties!

Having a father like Joe’s is some serious measuring stick to live up to and be compared too so I won’t even go there as i’m sure he gets that all the time, so all I will say on that topic is, this is a book that will make his old man super proud. Horror as horror should be. Absolutely bloody and bloody brilliant.

Why has no one snapped the tv or movie rights to this yet or am I still years behind everyone else still? I don’t know why I am only just discovering this book now (Thank You Twitter) but i am so glad I did, it has got to be one of the best horrors I have read in a long long time. And I’m only almost to six years late arriving in Christmasland! 😕

Charles Talent Manx for me is like our generations The Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but with added layers of sinister sprinkled on top. Im not sure saying that I liked him is the right thing to say, but, i really did like him and even with my dreadful memory I will remember him, along with Maggie’s earrings. Why have i never considered Scrabble tiles as potential pieces of jewellery?

I won’t go into plot lines as there are hundreds of reviews out there explains that and in much better ways than i could so it is suffice to say, if like me you are still behind the times and haven’t read this yet then do so now, after all it is almost Christmas and what better way to see the festive season in than with a really great christmasy Christmas read!

Grab your copy of NOS4A2 now and escape to Christmasland why you still can!!

Merry Christmas everybody 🎄🎅🏼⛄️
